Senate Set to Extend Jobless Aid 1  


In the midst of the worst recession since The Great Depression, Congress had extended unemployment benefits past the normal 26 weeks six times since June 2008. However, those benefits expired in early June after a Republican filibuster stalled Democratic efforts to once again prolong those benefits.

The current downturn has affected the majority of Americans. Over half of all the nation’s working age adults experienced work hardships in the form of a job loss, pay cut or involuntary reduction in hours.

Bernanke: Recovery Won't Feel “Terrific” 1  


The economy will avoid a double-dip recession, but unemployment will remain high for some time, making for a very painful recovery for some, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Monday.
