Government Shuts Down From Outrage Over Obamacare, Where’s The Outrage Over “Free Trade?”

government-shutdown

We’ve all heard by now that the government has shut down due to a failure on behalf of the Republicans and Democrats to reach a budget compromise.

As a result of the immature behavior coming from our elected officials, not only will nearly 800,000 federal workers be put on mandatory, unpaid leave, but many across the country are going to have to put up with the following, and more:

  • Benefit payments for veterans and social security could be delayed due to staffing shortages in processing facilities
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), which helps provide healthy food to new mothers and young children, will shut down
  • The Veterans Benefits Administration will stop processing education and rehabilitation benefits
  • E-verify will shut down. This program run by the Department of Homeland Security helps employers determine the legal status of employees. This could lead to hiring delays across the country
  • Over 400 national parks, museums, and other attractions like White House and Statue of Liberty tours are closed

There are many other ways in which the shutdown will affect average Americans, and we should all be outraged that it’s been allowed to get to this point. But some are pointing out that this is not all we should be outraged about. Some are saying Americans should be protesting in the streets over the fact that our mainstream media is allowing the temper tantrum between Republicans and Democrats to distract the United States from other extremely important, harmful problems going on in our country.

While news of the government shut down roared across the country like wildfire — and the mainstream media set to work on further dividing the public between Republicans and Democrats — President Obama was and is still enjoying the fact that no one is paying any attention to his job-killing “free trade” agenda — specifically his Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). This is an agreement that some are calling NAFTA on steroids. This is NOT a good thing! NAFTA was a disaster! And now, while the public remains distracted and content being brainwashed even more by the corporate-controlled mainstream media, President Obama is going to continue gathering support from lobbyists, corporations, and foreign leaders that will inevitably allow the TPP to pass — at the cost of more American jobs and sovereignty.

If that’s not enough, as word of the shutdown circulated to virtually every American household, our government and military was busy allegedly bombing Pakistan, furthering the proof that our administration is still interested in potential war in the Middle East.

Then there are smaller, but still important, issues that are going on here at home. For example, the fact that many parents in the U.S. are growing concerned that Chinese-processed chicken might be served in their children’s lunchrooms. When you take into account that China isn’t necessarily known for their upstanding food safety standards, you can imagine why this would be a concern for parents.

The point is that there are so many other issues placing our citizens at risk and destroying our economy that just aren’t being covered by the media. Why? Why aren’t we more upset about this? The government shutdown from outrage over Obamacare; where’s the outrage over “free trade” and our governments willingness to continue shipping U.S. jobs overseas?

Wake up America! We are allowing ourselves to be brainwashed into compliance by a government who can’t even act like responsible adults long enough to pass a budget for the benefit of the people who voted them into office in the first place. We must take some accountability ourselves and demand better from Washington.

Contact your congressional representative and demand an end to the petty politics dividing an already divided country. Send this five of your friends and have them do the same.
