Unfortunately most Americans do not realize that we are the enemy. I talk to friends, acquaintances and strangers all the time, people that have good educations who can make a lot of money, as well a s those who can’t and don’t. I talked to a complete stranger at an athletic club. He had just sold his construction business that had a payroll of 400. He was completely oblivious to the reality of where his country was heading. He thought we were just facing some hard times like those that have occurred in the past.

He said that he sold his business for cash – the buyer was able to come up a lot of the money and borrow the rest. He mentioned that he was not going to take the chance of being “busted out,” a term that was new to me, but one that he was very familiar with. Here’s a man who is very successful at running a business and making and accumulating a lot of wealth, but he doesn’t seem to have a clue about where his country is going. I told him that in spite of his millions, he was in the process of losing his freedom, and without a free country, his money would have no significance.

I am sure that many of my ancestors in Europe were serfs. I wonder sometimes what it must have been like for them. Am I about to find out? It’s not a pleasant thought.
